The river at Houghton and Wyton

The River Ouse runs past the villages and is, perhaps, one of the most beautiful of their natural charms.

The stretch of the river between St Ives and Huntingdon has a lock at Houghton, which is a trap for visitors as day trippers and serious weekend sailors get to grips with the the emptying and filling of the lock, often with amusing results. There is a second lock at Hemingford, but that is hard to get to so stick with ours :o)

As the seasons change, I will endeavour to change the pictures of the river, but in the meantime, these two images were taken a week apart to show the diversity of weather as Summer gives way to Autumn.
